City of Berwyn City Council met Feb. 26

Here are the minutes provided by the council:

Mayor Robert J. Lovero called the City Council meeting to order at 8:00PM. Deputy Clerk Anderson called the roll. Alderpeople present in chambers: Woywod, Leja, Fejt, Ruiz, Arenella, and Carmichael. Leja motioned to excuse Lennon. Seconded by Arenella. The motion passed by a unanimous voice vote. Attendees rose to recite the Pledge of Allegiance. Mayor Lovero asked for a moment of silence in memory of Eleanor Walters and in support of our First Responders.  

Open Forum: 1" Ward resident Yadira Padilla congratulated the Mayor on the outcome of the 2025  election. She went on to praise the Mayor and City Council for all of their efforts over the past 4 years. 4th Ward resident Natalia Perez congratulated everyone on the outcome of the election.  

Approval of Minutes:  

C-1: Ald. Fejt made the motion, seconded by Ald. Arenella, to approve t he February 11, 2025 Regular City Council Meeting Minutes as submitted. The motion passed by a unanimous voice vote . Bid Openings: Nothing submitted for the agenda.  

Berwyn Township, Berwyn Health District, Berwyn Development Corporation: Nothing submitted for the agenda.  

Reports from the Mayor:  

F-1: Ald. Carmichael made the motion, seconded by Ald . Arenella, to have the Proclamation honoring Fitzgerald's Nightclub read aloud and to adopt the Proclamation as presented and send it on its way to passage. The motion passed on a unanimous voice vote.  

F-2: Ald. Fejt made the motion, seconded by Ald. Pabon, to adopt the Resolution Authorizing and Approving the Berwyn Recreation Department's request to hold their Annual Baseball Parade on May 10,2025, direct the Corporate Authorities to affix the necessary signatures and send it on its way to passage. The motion passed by a unanimous roll call vote.  

Reports from the City Clerk:  

G-1: Ald. Pabon made the motion, seconded by Ald. Carmichael, to concur with the staffs recommendation to approve the handicap parking applications #1529 for 1645 S. Gunderson Avenue  (SPACE) and #1530 for 1316 S. Clarence Avenue (ZONE). The motion passed by a unanimous voice vote  in favor.  

G-2: Ald. Pabon made the motion, seconded by Ald. Arenella, to concur with the staffs recommendation to deny the handicap parking applications #1528 for 3736 S. Wesley Avenue (Space), #1531 for 3838 S. Maple Avenue (Space) and #1535 for 1627 S. Oak Park Avenue. The motion passed by a unanimous  voice vote in favor.  

G-3: Ald. Leja made the motion, seconded by Ald. Fejt to grant permission to the Berwyn Park District's  request for various 2025 events requesting city services. The motion passed by a unanimous voice vote  in favor.  

Zoning Board of Appeals: Nothing submitted for the agenda.

Reports from the Aldermen, Committees, and Boards:  

1-1: Ald. Pabon made the motion, seconded by Ald. Fejt, to refer a request to City Attorney to amend the City of Berwyn Welcoming City Ordinance and bring it back to council to approve. The motion passed by a unanimous voice vote. 

Reports from Staff:  

J-1: Ald. Leja made the motion, seconded by Ald. Carmichael, to accept Police Chiefs approval to St. Mary of Celie's request to hold their "Way of the Cross" procession on Good Friday, April 18, 2025. The  motion passed by a unanimous roll call vote.  

J-2: Ald . Ruiz made the motion, seconded by Ald . Pabon, to approve Public Works request to approve pay estimate #1, for mobilization for the Ogden Avenue water main replacement project to Christopher  B. Burke Engineering in the amount of $740,965.96. The motion passed by a unanimous roll call vote. J-3: Ald. Ruiz made the motion, seconded by Ald . Pabon, to approve Public Works request for approval of pay estimates #20 for $613,057.08 and pay estimate #21 to R. W. Dunteman Company for $965,458.13 for Depot District Streetscape project. The motion carried by a unanimous roll call vote. Consent Agenda Items K-1 thru K-4: Ald. Fejt made the motion, seconded by Ald. Leja, to approve the Consent Agenda as presented. The motion passed by a unanimous voice vote.  

Aldermanic Committee Meetings: No meetings announced.  

Adjournment: There being no further business before the Council, Ald. Carmichael made the motion, seconded by Ald. Arene lla, to adjourn the meeting. The motion carried by a unanimous voice vote. The meeting adjourned at 8:21 p.m.
