On December 13, 2024, the Cicero Community Center hosted its annual posada, organized by the Cicero Mexican Cultural Committee in partnership with the Town of Cicero. The event brought together hundreds of residents to celebrate the holiday season through music, activities, and community engagement.
Commissioner Frank Aguilar highlighted the event's significance and tradition. “For almost 20 years, the Cicero Mexican Cultural Committee has worked hard to make this event a success,” Aguilar said. “It’s all about giving back. Thanks to organizations like Toys for Tots and the many volunteers, every child here will leave with a gift. It’s a 100% volunteer effort, and the community’s generosity makes it all possible.”
The posada is a traditional Mexican celebration commemorating Mary and Joseph's journey. Families enjoyed festive music from mariachi bands and performances by District 99 choir members. Children participated in crafts, face painting, and raffles while Santa Claus made an appearance with gifts donated by sponsors such as Burger King.
Special Events Director Patty Salerno emphasized collaboration in organizing the event. “This event wouldn’t be possible without the leadership of President Larry Dominick, the Board of Trustees, and the many organizations that came together,” Salerno said. “It’s a true team effort, with every detail—from the activities to the gifts—coming from donations and partnerships.”
Maru Ayala, President of the Cicero Mexican Cultural Committee, expressed gratitude for support over the years. “Every year, this celebration gets better,” Ayala said. “It’s a chance for the community to come together, enjoy music, and share the holiday spirit. We are so proud to see families leaving with smiles and memories they will cherish.” The venue was moved to accommodate more attendees comfortably.
As festivities concluded, attendees appreciated Cicero's dedication to fostering community spirit during holidays. President Larry Dominick reaffirmed commitment to supporting events like these for preserving traditions.
