The Illinois Environmental Protection Agency has awarded a $140,000 grant to the Village of Brookfield. This funding is intended to support the development of electric vehicle (EV) infrastructure at locations that are yet to be determined within the village.

This announcement follows Brookfield's selection as a Third Cohort Community in the ComEd/Metropolitan Mayors Caucus EV Readiness Program. The program aims to provide technical assistance for developing policies and implementing best practices, including identifying suitable sites for public EV charging stations in Brookfield.

"We are incredibly grateful to the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency (IEPA) for awarding Brookfield this grant to fund the future installation of electric vehicle infrastructure," stated Brookfield Community Development Director Libby Popovic. "This grant perfectly complements our selection to participate in the EV Readiness Program, helping us take an important step toward a more sustainable and environmentally friendly future for our community."

The grant will be utilized for constructing commercial-grade Level 2 charging stations. This includes network hardware and software, utility equipment interconnections and upgrades, signage, lighting, and other components necessary for establishing EV charging stations.

Village staff plans to finalize details regarding the installation of EV charging stations as part of its EV Readiness Program initiative slated for 2025.
