FEMA representatives are actively visiting homes in Brookfield to assist residents affected by the severe weather events that occurred from July 13-16. These FEMA Disaster Survivor Assistance Teams are aiding residents in applying for assistance and referring them to other resources for unmet needs following storms, tornadoes, straight-line winds, and flooding that impacted Cook, Fulton, Henry St. Clair Washington, Will, and Winnebago counties.

The National Weather Service confirmed an EF-0 tornado passed through central Brookfield on July 14. In addition to the assistance teams, FEMA home inspectors are conducting prearranged visits to verify reported damages.

Residents can identify official FEMA personnel by their photo ID badges. For verification of any visit or call claiming to be from FEMA, individuals can contact the helpline at 800-621-3362. It is important to note that neither FEMA nor any associated federal or state disaster workers will request money or payment.

Reports of fraud or scams related to FEMA’s disaster relief operations can be directed to StopFEMAFraud@fema.dhs.gov or by calling 866-223-0814.
