Green your Halloween by composting your pumpkin at the Western Springs Pumpkin Smash. The Pumpkin Smash is an effort to divert pumpkins from landfills by providing locations for residents to drop off jack-o-lanterns to be composted.

The event will take place on Saturday, November 9, from 9 am to noon, in the parking lot at St. John of the Cross School, located at 5005 Wolf Road.

Participants are asked to ensure that their pumpkins are contaminant-free. This means no candles, yarn, stickers, googly eyes, plastic ears, or any non-biodegradable materials.
