The Village of Brookfield has been notified by the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) that it has received the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award for its 2024 Operating Budget document. This marks the third consecutive year that Brookfield has been honored with this award.

The accolade signifies a notable achievement for the Village, underscoring the commitment of Brookfield's Board of Trustees and staff to adhere to the highest standards of governmental budgeting. To qualify for this recognition, Brookfield had to meet nationally recognized guidelines for effective budget presentation. These guidelines evaluate how well an entity's budget functions as a policy document, a financial plan, an operations guide, and a communications device.

Budget documents must achieve "proficient" ratings in all four categories and in 14 mandatory criteria within those categories to be eligible for the award.

There are over 1,700 participants in GFOA's Budget Awards Program. The most recent recipients and their corresponding budget documents are posted quarterly on GFOA's website. Award recipients have led efforts to enhance the quality of budgeting and set a standard for other governments throughout North America.
