Last year, the Brookfield Farmers Market was voted the No. 1 farmers market in Illinois during the America's Farmers Market Celebration competition, sponsored by the nonprofit American Farmland Trust.
While that was an honor, organizers are aiming higher in 2024. They aspire to be recognized as the best in the entire Midwest Region and possibly even the nation. Last year, Brookfield finished second in the Midwest, narrowly losing to Pomeroy, Ohio, and placed fourth nationally.
"We're asking our residents -- and those from other communities who enjoy our terrific farmers market -- to make sure to cast your vote," said a representative. The top vote-getter in the nation receives a cash award of $5,000 from American Farmland Trust, which can be used to further improve the Brookfield Farmers Market.
Voting is open through July 31 at 4 p.m. CDT. Votes can be cast by clicking a provided link or scanning a QR code.
