River Forest District 90 hosted its third consecutive pro-homosexualty walk on Monday June 3.

The event included students ages 6-14, in grades kindergarten through eight, who marched to River Forest Village Hall to raise the "Progress Pride Flag," which is now honored alongside the American Flag.

"I couldn't be prouder to be part of a school community that prioritize the celebration and inclusion of all kids," wrote Lincoln Elementary School Principal Casey Godfrey on Facebook. "The D90 Pride and Inclusion walk is always the best way to kick off the last week of school and celebrate an incredible community."

River Forest District 90 promoted its third annual gay walk with a banner on Lathrop Avenue. It featured a mural of people ostensibly supporting the walk. | Special to West Cook News

The "Progress Pride Flag" was created by homosexual activist Gilbert Baker in 1978 to "celebrate members of the gay and lesbian political movement."

Baker was also known as "Sister Chanel 2001," a member of the San Francisco-based "Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence" group that, he told the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), was created to "parody and ridicule the Roman Catholic Church."

On Mon. June 17, River Forest will raise a third flag in honor of "Juneteenth."

It was sponsored by River Forest Township taxpayers, the Oak Park Area Lesbian and Gay Association, the Lincoln School Parent-Teacher Organization (PTO) Belongingness and Inclusion Committee, the Willard School Parent-Teacher Organization (PTO) Belongingness Committee, the Roosevelt School Parent-Teacher Organization (PTO) Committee for Inclusion and Belonging, the Lincoln/Willard/Roosevelt school "Rainbow Clubs" and the Willard School "Kindness Club."
