Village of Berkeley Village Board met May 7

Here are the minutes provided by the board:

1 President Lee calls meeting to order at 6:30 p.m. 

2  Pledge of Allegiance

Also present: Village Administrator Espiritu, Village Attorney Smith, Deputy Chief Bresnahan, Public Works Director Wagner

8.1 Administration, Finance and Technology (Chair - Trustee Graf-Stone; Co- Chair - Trustee Mathews) 

8.1.1 Trustee Liaison Report 

Trustee Graf-Stone reminds everyone that the time capsule opening is scheduled for Saturday May 18, 2024 at 10 a.m. Also states staff has delivered the final tax levy reports to cook county tax office for the tax year 2023. Second floor project being completed and final painting being done this week. Trustee Salemi mentions Sal from Republic Bank states will keep a log regarding payments received at bank for water bills. Administrator Espiritu states will work out logistics with the bank. 

8.1.2 Motion to Approve a Resolution for Maintenance of Streets and Highways by Municipality under the Illinois Highways Code for FY 2024 2025

8.4 Public Works and Utilities (Chair - Trustee Hammar; Co-Chair - Trustee Salemi) 

8.4.1 Trustee Liaison Report-Trustee Hammar reports new trees have been ordered and will be planted soon. Also new compactor has been received and training will be happening soon. Board discusses tree replacement and trimming process. 

8.5 Intergovernmental Relations (Chair – Trustee Thomas; Co-Chair - Trustee Perez) 

8.5.1 Trustee Liaison Report-no report 

8.6 Community Events (Chair - Trustee Perez; Co-Chair - Trustee Graf-Stone) 8.6.1 Trustee Liaison Report-Neighborhood watch meeting coming up May 16, 2024. Jersey Girls will be first music group playing in Berkeley. 

9 Village President 

9.1 Village President Report 

President Lee announces signature event happening May 18 with the opening of the time capsule at the Library. Centennial Co-Chair Trustee Thomas along with Chairperson Kathleen Chmura has put together a minute by minute schedule for the event ending with concert in the park from 5p to 7p. A new book is coming out detailing the history of Berkeley. Memorial Day will be celebrated with the Jerele, Spencer and Lee families. Rose program has been a huge success, there will be over 60 rose bushes planted at the veteran's cemetery.

10 Village Administrator-no report 

11. Village Attorney-Springfield has remained busy but with no bills have being passed. Courtney Willits will provide an update at next board meeting, she is filling in for Village attorney Greg Smith.
