Discussion of Proposed Options for Improvement of Intersection at Maple Avenue and 31st Street

Assistant Village Manager Stevie Ferrari presents the Phase 1 report for the improvement for the intersection of Maple Avenue and 31st Street as part of the Village of Brookfield's involvement in the Des Plaines River Trail South project. The recommendation is to have the intersection host three lanes in all legs of the intersection. The cost of $600,000. Mark from Ciorba presents the background information of the intersection, the alternate options for the intersection, and answers questions from the Village Board. Car and pedestrian safety, traffic flow concerns, and full cycle versus half cycle for traffic lights are discussed. Village Engineer Derek Treichel, Fire Chief Jim Adams, and Village Manager Tim Wiberg comment on the intersection. Comments and questions are made by President Garvey and Trustees Ketchmark, Narimatsu, Kaluzny, and Hendricks.

Discussion Regarding Proposed Streetscape Improvements on Grand Boulevard and Brookfield Avenue

Village Engineer Derek Treichel summarizes the scope of work for the 3700 Block of Grand Boulevard, the south side of Brookfield Avenue from Prairie Avenue to the sculpture, and the north side of Brookfield Avenue from Prairie Avenue to Arden Avenue. Three decisions are asked to be made at the meeting: street lighting, tree grates/planter areas, and bollards/seat wall at northeast corner of Brookfield Avenue and Grand Boulevard. Pedestrian poles are discussed to be installed at 3700 Grand Boulevard. The options of roadway, pedestrian, or a combination of the two types of lighting at the intersections of Brookfield/Grand/Prairie and Grand/Grant/Sunnyside are discussed. Lighting options are discussed for the intersection of Grand Avenue and Grant Avenue. Lighting distance is discussed for the 3700 Block of Grand Boulevard. Additional amenities such as electrical outlets on light poles, banner and planter supports on light poles, conduit for EV charging stations, electrical connections for summer events at south end of block, benches and garbage cans (not part of project), lights extending north on Prairie Avenue, and lights on Burlington Avenue and Prairie Avenue are discussed. Village Manager Tim Wiberg provides comment. Comments and questions are made by President Garvey and Trustees Kaluzny, Cote, Hendricks, Ketchmark, and Narimatsu.
