Village of Berkeley Village Board met Feb. 6.

Here are the minutes provided by the board:

1 President Lee calls meeting to order at 6:30 p.m.

Trustee Graf-Stone shares team has been focused on finalizing the FY 24-25 budget. Budget will be submitted on Feb 20 budget workshop coming up.

8.2 Community and Economic Development (Chair – Trustee Salemi; Co-Chair – Trustee Thomas)

8.2.1 Trustee Liaison Report

Trustee Salemi states the next Hillside/Berkeley Chamber of Commerce meeting will be held sometime soon.

8.2.2 Motion to Approve an Ordinance Amending the Berkeley Zoning Code to Permit Banquet Halls / Event Spaces as an Accessory Special Use in the B-1 District and to allow Village Staff to Propose Text Amendments to the Zoning Code

8.2.3 Motion to Approve a Resolution Approving the Reimbursement of Redevelopment Project Costs to Mittera Illinois LLC under the Redevelopment Agreement for the Redevelopment of 5656 – 5670 McDermott Road, Berkeley, Cook County, Illinois, As Amended

8.4 Public Works and Utilities (Chair – Trustee Hammar; Co-Chair – Trustee Salemi)

8.4.1 Trustee Liaison Report-Trustee Hammer explains addition of charges for water main project. Public Works Director Joe Wagner explains 2nd agenda item regarding project to update sanitary line.

8.4.2 Monthly Report

8.4.3 Motion to Approve a Resolution Approving and Authorizing the Execution of Change Order No. 1 for the Taft Avenue Water Main Lining Project in an amount not to exceed $24,796.01

8.4.4 Motion to Approve a Resolution Approving and Authorizing the Execution of an Agreement between the Village of Berkeley, Cook County, Illinois and Baxter and Woodman, Inc. for Phase III Engineering of the 2024 Section 6 Sanitary Rehabilitation Project in an amount not to exceed $38,600.00

8.5 Intergovernmental Relations (Chair – Trustee Thomas; Co-Chair – Trustee Perez)

8.5.1 Trustee Liaison Report-Trustee Thomas reports the library is having an eclipse event on April 8, 2024 and also having a spring sale April 6, 2024.

8.5.2 Motion to Approve a Resolution Approving an Intergovernmental Agreement between the Village of Berkeley and the Berkeley Park District Regarding the Berkeley Bike Path Project

Assistant Administrator Miller stated that the only change to the agreement was to include a map containing the specific PIN’s of the project. Trustee Thomas made motion to amend IGA agreement Trustee Salemi agreed to proceed with vote.

8.6 Community Events (Chair – Trustee Perez; Co-Chair – Trustee Graf-Stone)

8.6.1 Trustee Liaison Report-Trustee Perez reports community meeting at library with twelve other organizations regarding centennial celebrations. Neighborhood watch will coordinate hosting block parties in the community.

9 Village President

9.1 Village President Report-President Lee ask Trustees to attend dinner, if possible, on February 21, 2024 with Congressman Chuy Garcia. Also asked Trustees to help departments heads regarding their budgets and liaison responsibilities.

President Lee stated that this is our centennial year and the goal is to draw the community together, many events have begun and will continue throughout the year. The time capsule opening is set for May 18, 2023, Parade will be held August 11, 2024 and there will also be an opportunity for residents to purchase roses among other events taking place. Berkeley is the rose town. The next neighborhood watch meeting will be held February 15, 2024.

9.2 2/20/24 Village Board Meeting at 6:30 p.m.

10 Village Administrator-no report

11 Village Attorney-Attorney Smith reports Illinois General Assembly ruled consolidation of investment retirement funds for police/fire that was upheld.
