Fenwick Friar girls swim and dive team 2023 sectional champs

The Fenwick Friars Girls Swimming and Diving team are 2023 IHSA Sectional Champions after stiff competition from the girls of Lane Tech.  The event was hosted by Fenwick High School in Oak Park, IL Saturday November 4th, 2023.

Fenwick’s sectional swim roster included Senior co-captains Alex Lefko and Cailey Peele, Juniors Anna Doherty, Evelyn Mulvihill, and Claire Wood, Sophomore Regan McDonald, and four fast new freshman Jill Peele, Maggie Raniere, Sammie Reiss and Maeve Ryan.

The diving roster included junior Victoria Castillo and freshman Valencia Ptak (not pictured).

Swimming is led by first-year head coach Ben Munster and diving is led by head coach Jeremy Gravelle.

Twelve teams competed Saturday with final scores: Fenwick 317, Lane 281, OPRF 243, Leyden 193, Northside 120, Trinity 76, Morton 48, DePaul 35, Lake View 24, Senn 18, Proviso West 10, Prosser 2.

Fenwick will be sending one diver and several swimmers onto the IHSA girls swimming & diving state final meet at FMC Natatorium in Westmont, IL on November 10-11.

Friar Victoria Castillo was the top diving competitor Saturday and will advance to state competition.  

The 200 yard individual medley relay team of Mulvihill, Raniere, Doherty and Peele made the cut with a time of 1:45.74.  Doherty’s time of 2:06.19 in the 200 yard individual medley qualified her for state competition.  Lane’s 200 yard freestyle relay team advances to state also.  

Lane’s Taryn Hickey and Fenwick’s Evelyn Mulvihill both bested the 52.97 qualifying time in the 100 yard freestyle to earn a state spot.  

Three girls qualified for state competition in the 500 yard freestyle – Lane’s Layla Miglietta, Fenwick’s Anna Doherty, and Lane’s Isabella Gronowski with times under 5:13.47.

Fenwick’s 200 yard freestyle relay team of Ryan, Raniere, Wood and Peele made the cut with a time of 1:37.3, as well as Lane’s team of McCracken, Hickey, Schober and Miglietta with 1:38.10.  

Fenwick’s Mulvihill swam the 100 yard backstroke in 57.57 earning her a state spot, and the Fenwick 400 yard relay team of Mulvihill, Wood, Peele and Doherty qualified with a time of 3:33.35.
