This week, Le Shawn K. Ford, Representative for District 8 of Illinois, took to social media to state that Illinois is set to become the first state to eliminate cash bail. Since Illinois is going to eliminate cash bail, now, all attention needs to be on the judges.
"Ilinois set to become first state to eliminate cash bail, now all eyes must be on “Judges” Justice & Judgement," Illinois Representative Le Shawn K. Ford said in a July 18 Twitter Post.
According to chicago.suntimes.com, Illinois is set to become the first state to eliminate cash bail, while other states have attempted to implement similar strategies, their success in eliminating cash bail has been inconsistent. Illinois will be the only one to completely do away with having to pay money to get released from jail. The high court said the law should now go into effect in September.

According to an article issued by Block Club Chicago, ending cash bail means that individuals who are arrested and accused of a crime would no longer be required to pay a certain amount of money, known as bail, to secure their release from jail while awaiting trial. Instead, the decision to release or detain a defendant would be based on factors other than their ability to pay.
The two Republicans voted not to abolish cash bail, but they were outruled 5-2. The two Republicans said, “the legislature’s abolishment of monetary bail is in direct violation of the plain language of our constitution’s bill of rights and, more specifically, the vested rights of crime victims. This court has an absolute obligation to declare the pretrial release provisions of the Act to be invalid and unenforceable no matter how beneficial the abolishment of monetary bail may be.”
"Illinois set to become first state to eliminate cash bail, now all eyes must be on “Judges”. Judges will hold a big part in the Illinois justice system now, because they will be determining whether or not someone gets to be released from jail," Ford tweeted. La Shawn Ford is calling for judges to be fully prepared for this transformative change, emphasizing the importance of keeping a close watch on their actions and decisions during this process.
