Village of Western Springs Properties & Recreation Committee met April 4

Here are the minutes provided by the committee:

Called to Order: 5:01 P.M. by Nicole Chen, Chair-Trustee

Seconded by Alan Fink, Trustee

Committee Members Present:

Staff Present:

Approval of Minutes:

The Committee minutes from the 3/7/2023 Properties and Recreation meeting were approved with no corrections.

Public Comment:

None

Arbor Day Proclamation:

Every year the Village participates in Arbor Day to celebret trees and plant a new tree at one of the schools in town. This year the Village will celebrate Arbor Day at Lyons Township High School.

Trustee Chen motions to bring the Arbor Day 2023 Proclamation to the village Board meeting. Seconded by Trustee Fink.

Surplus Equipment Declaration:

Staff is looking to declare various pieces of office furniture as surplus to be sold on publicsurplus.com.

The pieces looking to be declared as surplus include various styles of office chairs, desks, a bookshelf, and a cabinet. Staff will explore other potential disposal options if necessary.

Trustee Chen motions to declare the listed furniture as surplus and bring the proposal to the village

Board. Seconded by Trustee Fink.

Recreation Update:

The summer activities brochure was completed on 3/21 and resident registration begins 4/6 and nonresident registration on 4/13. Open gym has been hit or miss this season with the weather playing a big role in attendance. A new water fountain was installed at the Rec Center. The race route for the Tower trot has been finalized; There are 67 participants so far. Ob-boarding for summer camps is starting up shortly.

Capital Summary Report:

West Underpass: No Update

Historic Water Tower Stairs: This project is on hold due to the current legislation in Springfield that introduces a museum tax. This bill may have an impact on this project.

Other:

Last month, residents came to the Properties and Recreation meeting to discuss the ROW purchase by the Tollway for the 294-expansion project. Since then, staff has met with the residents in the area.
