Stars Drop Two in Augustana

 The Dominican University baseball team was back in action with two games in Augustana on Sunday.

The Stars took on Monmouth College in the first game and Augustana College in the second.

Game 1 Results:
Dominican: 3
Monmouth: 11

How it Happened:
-Dominican got on the board right away in the first inning and took a 2-0 lead.
-DU capitalized with runners in scoring position when senior Garrett Wano drove in 2 runs.
-The Stars lead didn't last long as Monmouth was able to respond with a 4-run bottom of the first inning.
-MC continued to stretch the lead with a run scoring in the second and third inning to extend the lead to 6-2.
-DU was able to inch closer in the fourth inning with an RBI single from junior Grayson Downing.
-Monmouth then put the game out of reach with five more runs scoring in the seventh and eighth inning.

Shining Stars:
-Downing had a solid performance at the plate with 3 hits including a double and an RBI.
-Wano drove in 2 of the team's 3 runs in the contest.
-Sophomore CJ Kalekas was the only other player for the Stars with a multi-hit game.

Game 2 Results:
Dominican: 2
Augustana: 16

How it Happened:
-The Stars struggled to bounce back after their game 1 loss and fell behind right away.
-DU allowed 2 runs to score in the first inning and 4 in the second.
-Dominican got 1 run back in the third off an error from Augustana.
-The Stars trailed 8-1 after three innings.
-The offense for Augustana continued to carry momentum and they added 4 runs in the fourth inning.
-Augustana wasn't finished there as they added four more in the sixth inning.
-DU did get a run back in the final seventh inning with an RBI from senior Austin Doty.

Shining Stars:
-Junior Gabe McCall was the only Stars player to reach base multiple times.
-Doty and Downing drove in the two runs for the Stars.
-Junior Tyler Ferraro had a solid inning out of the bullpen allowing just 1 hit and no runs.

What's Next:
The Dominican University baseball team is back in action on Saturday for their home opener against Elmhurst University at 12:00 PM.
