The D89 Education Foundation honored Maywood Village Trustee Antonio Sanchez and Mayor Nathaniel Booker for their contributions in the founding of the Education Foundation.

Chaplain Lorenzo Webber, board president of the D89 Education Foundation, made the presentation. During the meeting, which was streamed on Facebook, trustees learned that the foundation is a nonprofit group focused on raising funds to support students and teachers in the Maywood-Melrose Park-Broadview School District, providing grants to teachers and scholarships to students.

“We've come a long way standing on the shoulders of great ones that has started the foundation,” Webber said during the session. “I had the privilege of being on the founding board. And with that, a person's energy, innovation made an incredible difference on the board.”

Sanchez received the Appreciation Award on behalf of the board president, executive director, and board of directors for the D89 Education Foundation.

“I have the privilege of introducing this award to someone that we really do miss on the board,” Webber added during the meeting. “But we, of course, understand the enormous amount of responsibilities that this person has. They have to, of course, make room for other leaders as well. And we all have to do that at times.”

During the meeting, Webber also spotlighted the leadership of Mayor Nathaniel Booker, a founder and the first treasurer of the foundation who now is executive director of the foundation.

Trustee Gwaine Dianne Williams serves on the board of the foundation as secretary.
