The Western Springs financial office recently received recognition for its hard work.
During a Nov. 21 village board meeting, the village manager announced that Western Springs would be receiving a certificate of excellence from the Government Finance Officers Association for their 2020 comprehensive annual financial report. This is the 28th year in a row that they have received this distinction for their annual financial reports in the village.
"So I wanted to congratulate not only director John Mastadona but retired director Grace Turi and all of their staff for the work they did over the past year to put together that wonderful, comprehensive annual financial report. It takes a lot of work and effort, and doing this to the highest standard is so important," Western Springs Village Manager Ellen Baer said.
The village manager along with the trustees thanked finance director John Mastandona and the recently retired director Grace Turi who retired last September after almost 30 years in the village financial office. Their staff will receive yet another medallion for the distinction that will be added to the ever-growing number of plaques in their office.
The finance office also gave a brief report in the village board meeting on the village’s finances for the month of October. They reported that although they ended October with a deficit in the budget, it was expected due to the delay of the second installment of property taxes, which notices had just been sent out for. Besides, that revenues looked good and all other numbers were as expected.
