City of Countryside Comprehensive Plan Steering Committee met Sept. 7.

The City of Countryside held a meeting of the Countryside Comprehensive Plan Steering Committee (CPSC) to review and discuss the Existing Conditions Memorandum (ECM), an interim deliverable for the Countryside 2040 Comprehensive Plan project. Six members of the CPSC attended.
Discussion – ECM
A presentation and discussion was held regarding the ECM. The following comments were provided by the CPSC.
Demographics
- There was a question about the percentage of Hispanic population, and a note that the Census designates that people of any race may self-identify as Hispanic
Existing Bicycle Network
- Comments consisted of some routes/roads that may be considered for inclusion in the Comprehensive Plan’s recommendations.
- There are future bike paths planned or proposed for 55th Street and Joliet Road.
- Willow Springs Road has good connectivity and there is already a lot of bicycle traffic. Willow Springs Road is also experiencing more delivery truck traffic, such as UPS.
- The Comprehensive Plan should incorporate IDOT plans.
- A recent fatal bicycle accident at 55th and LaGrange Road was mentioned.
Parks, Open Space, and Recreation
- The distance for the parks service areas needs to be identified in the text or on the map.
- The unused Forest Preserves of Cook County (FPDCC) land south of I-55 in the Southern Tier portion of the community needs to be identified in the Comprehensive Plan’s recommendations for future use/collaboration with FPDCC.
Outreach Appendix
- There was discussion as to how to further outreach as the planning process continues, including a QR code flyer, City email blast, and adding the website to the electronic sign.
- There was some discussion about the library as a desired community facility/gathering space.
