Berwyn North School District 98 Board of Education met Nov. 15.

CALL TO ORDER
Meeting began at 6:36 pm with the Pledge of Allegiance led by Board President Mounce.
COMMUNICATIONS
A. Lincoln Middle School Student Presentation
Lincoln Middle School student Santiago Herrera Gonzalez, 7th grade, and Melanie Wawrzyniak, 8th grade, introduced themselves and presented a Voice Report. They shared their favorite subjects in school and reflected on their overall experience at Lincoln. They discussed what they liked about Lincoln, what is going well, what they would like to see improved, and what they want to see moving forward.
Member Swade stated that the presentation was easy to understand and that he appreciated the student perspectives.
B. Review of District Report Card Data
Dr. Smith presented the district’s report card. She presented the district’s “Growth,” “Meets,” and “Exceeds” data and compared Berwyn North School District 98 with benchmark data and data from the school districts of Oak Park and Riverside. With the exception of these two districts, Berwyn North District 98 outperformed other surrounding districts in “Growth, ” “Meets,” and “Exceeds” in Math, English Language Arts, and Science. Dr. Smith stated that overall the data is encouraging, but that there is still work to do.
PUBLIC COMMENT
Parent Nayelli Burns stated that she liked the math curriulum, Eureka Math. She would like more information on what parents can do to enhance their students’ learning. She inquired as to what resources the district can provide parents. Dr. Smith stated that parent tools and resources will be included in upcoming school newsletters.
BOARD COMMENT
Dr. Smith stated that it was Board Member Week; she read greeting cards from the District’s schools wishing board members a Happy Board Member’s Week. Treats were shared with the board members.
Member Cuevas thanked the schools and shared that it was an honor to serve on the school board. All board members thanked the schools and students for the well wishes.

b. Linda Pader, Science Teacher at Lincoln Middle School, has submitted an FMLA leave request to start on November 7, 2022, and end on January 6, 2023.
4. Retirements
a. Emma Herrera, Custodian, at Lincoln Middle School, has submitted a letter of intent to retire effective December 30, 2022.

Member Cuevas discussed the value of attending the Joint Annual Conference (Triple I), which is being held in Chicago this weekend. She mentioned that there are a lot of great workshops offered for new and existing board members.
