Berwyn North School District 98 Board of Education met Aug. 25.

Here are the minutes provided by the board:

CALL TO ORDER

Meeting began at 6:32 p.m. with the pledge of allegiance led by Board President Mounce.

COMMUNICATIONS

A. NWEA Map Similar School Report – Dr. Emily Crement, Assistant Superintendent Dr. Emily Crement presented the Board and community with the NWEA Map Assessment comparison data. Berwyn North has started the year running and are comparble and out performing students across the nation in Reading. Berwyn North is still showing a struggle with math acheivement coming out of covid. District 98 will be monitoring the progess of our students throughout the school year.

b. Erica Soto, from Lunchroom Supervisor at Jefferson Elementary School to Paraeducator at Jefferson Elementary School effective August 15, 2022.

3. Leaves:

a. Sara Tlusty, Special Education Specialist at Lincoln Middle School, has submitted an FMLA leave request to start on December 12, 2022 and end on February 28, 2023.

b. Jill Ikonnikov, Music Teacher at Havlicek Elementary School, has submitted a FMLA leave request to start on October 17, 2022 and end on January 30, 2023 with an additional leave to start on January 31, 2023 and end on June 6, 2023.

4. Resignations:

a. Courtney Ureel, General Education Teacher at Jefferson Elementary School, has submitted a Letter of Resignation effective August 8, 2022.

b. Terra Caskey, Reading Interventionist at Prairie Oak Elementary School, has submitted a Letter of Resignation effective August 15, 2022.

e. Janice Robinson, Paraeducator at Jefferson Elementary School, has submitted a Letter of Resignation effective August 26, 2022.

5. Retirement:

a. Amy Roche, General Education Teacher at Havlicek Elementary School, has submitted a Letter of Intent to retire effective June 30, 2026.

b. Mary Anne Sorensen, General Education Teacher at Jefferson Elementary School has submitted a Letter of Intent to retire effective June 30, 2024.

C. Approved Building Use Applications

1. Building Use - Girl Scouts - Prairie Oak Elementary School - Commons, for Bridging Ceremony on 5/18/2023 for practice & 5/19/2023 for the ceremony from 3:30 p.m. - 9:00 p.m.

2. Building Use - Girl Scouts - Prairie Oak Elementary School - Art Room B, for Girl Scout Meetings for 2nd - 5th grade every Tuesday starting 9/20/2022 through 5/30/2023, except when school is closed.

D. Approved Authorization of next month's payroll

1. Approval of Invoices – $1,124,274.59

2. Approval of Monthly Payroll – $526,197.28

3. Approval of Authorization of next month's payroll - September

ACTION ITEMS

A. Tabled – The change of the Buildings & Grounds Job Description

B. Approved – Purchase kitchen equipment for the building located at 6420 W. 16th Street, Berwyn IL 60402 (formerly the PTLC). TriMark Marlinn LLC in the amount of $638,379.29

C. Approved – The Food Service Demolition Project at the building located at 6420 W. 16th Street; Berwyn, IL 60402 (formerly the PTLC). USD US Dismantlement in the amount of $84,000.

D. Approved – The Increase the Day to Day Substitute Pay from $115 to $130.

INFORMATION AND REPORTS

A. Monthly Fund Report

Regina Johnson, Chief Business Official presented the Monthly Fund Report to the Board and community.

B. FOIA:

A FOIA request was submitted on August 17, 2022, by Ms. Karen Garcia, Data Acquisition Specialist of SmartProcure requesting employee/staff contact information. This FOIA was fulfilled on August 17, 2022.
