Berwyn North School District 98 Board of Education met June 30.

Here are the minutes provided by the board:

CALL TO ORDER

Meeting began at 6:32 p.m. with the pledge of allegiance led by Board President Mounce.

COMMUNICATIONS

A. Dr. Michelle Smith, Superintendent explained to the Board and community how the NWEA Map Assessment results are interpreted. The goal of this assessment is to determine exactly what each student needs. The assessment is given three times a year in both reading and math to all students in Kindergarten through 8th Grade. For the 2022-2023 school year the kinder students will only receive the assessment twice because they require more time to become accustomed to using the computer as an educational mechanism. The NWEA Map assessment will be used to determine growth from year to year.

B. Prairie Oak - FY22 NWEA Data Presentation - Eden Barragan, Principal

Principal Barragan presented the Board and community with the Havlicek Elementary School NWEA data.

C. Havlicek - FY22 NWEA Data Presentation - Jessica Hartless, Principal & Charlie DeLeonardis, Assistant Principal

Principal Hartless & Assistant Principal DeLeonardis presented the Board and community with the Havlicek Elementary School NWEA data.

D. Jefferson - FY22 NWEA Data Presentation - Dena Thill, Principal

Principal Thill presented the Board and community with the Havlicek Elementary School NWEA data.

INFORMATION AND REPORTS

A. Financial Auditor’s Request for Annual Submission:

Regina Johnson, Chief School Business Official, communicated to the Board that annually our auditing firm follows a standard process that involves board members participation. Within a few weeks, they will receive mail from Gassensmith & Michalesko, Ltd., Certified Public Accountants to complete and return. This is a requirement for all board members.

PUBLIC COMMENTS

A. Ms. Rodriguez addressed the Board and community to invite everyone to the North Berwyn Park District Mariachi Run. She was given a registration discount promo code for the Berwyn North School District group. Marta would like to extend the invitation to all that would like to participate on Saturday, August 20th in the morning. The run will take part in our community all the way to Morton West and back to the Park district. If you are interested please email Ms. Rodriguez at mrodriguez2@bn98.org.

BOARD COMMENTS

A. Member Kulis-Kearns Valeriano who attended the IASB West Cook Division Meeting would like to extend an invitation to the rest of the Board members to participate in a series of IASB trainings starting with The Trusted Edge Experience, on August 6, 2022. She also extended an invitation to the COSSBA and Urban National Symposium taking place in Atlanta, Georgia from September 8-9, 2022.

B. Member Kulis-Kearns Valeriano also communicated to the Board and community that she has volunteered Berwyn North School District 98 to host an IASB West Cook Division Meeting Dinner in March of 2023. Member Kulis-Kearns Valeriano encourages all Board members to participate as active board members to host this event.
