Dominican University women's soccer's Regan Coxon experienced culture through a different lens in this week's Internship Spotlight, serving in a three-week dental role in Kenya.
Coxon, a highly-decorated student-athlete on and off the field, took her talents to East Africa as part of a shadowing and experiential dental program over the past three weeks. Coxon teamed up with the organization International Medical Aid (IMA) in Mombasa, Kenya to gain valuable experience at Coast General Teaching and Referral Hospital (CGTRH).
While with IMA, she worked alongside some of Kenya's most-talented doctors in both dentistry and general facial surgery. She also visited local schools and helped to educate the students on proper hygiene and female menstrual cycles. Outside of the hospital, Coxon was involved in outreach clinics, which were designed to provide the community opportunities to see a doctor or receive medicine.
The Lowell, Mich. native will return to River Forest this fall for her senior season as a member of the women's soccer program. Coxon earned First Team All-NACC and All-Region accolades along with high-academic honors of both Scholar All-Region and Scholar All-American in her junior campaign.
