COMMUNICATIONS
A. 2022 Best Communities for Music Education
Dr. Michelle Smith, Superintendent acknowledged and congratulated Gina Parker for recommending Berwyn North School District 98 in participating in the Best Communities for Music Education. Berwyn North is 1 of 22 districts in 44 states to receive this distinction this year. District 98 will be receiving a Seal as one the Best Communities for Music Education that will be posted on our district website. Dr. Smith thanked Berwyn North Music Teachers for all that they do.
B. Writing Contest Winners
Dr. Smith, presented a video to the Board and community of the award winners. All the winners’ names and teachers were acknowledged during the meeting.
C. Chalkbeat Article
Superintendent Smith acknowledged to the Board and community that a magazine called Chalkbeat interviewed a few of our teachers and has since been published an article about English Learners. Dr. Smith acknowledged and congratulated Mrs. Francela Lopez, the Dual and EL Teacher for their participation and great work.
D. Student Presentation – Can you hear us?
Lincoln Middle School students Jayla Anderson-Westbrook, Gabriela Leyva, and Lincoln Teacher Ms. Kelly Brejcha presented to the Board and community an extensive presentation on the student & teacher survey data, their perspectives, thoughts, and suggestions. They came prepared to answer questions, offer suggestions, and provided a clear stance on why students should be allowed to wear hoodies. Their suggestion to discontinue the uniform policy giving precise answers using the data they provided allowed Board members and the community a clear picture on were they stand. They also explained why mandating uniforms creates a negative relationship with teacher and building administrators. They believe that allowing students to wear what they feel comfortable in reduces the amount of conflicts and allows for students to create positive relations with teacher who no longer have to enforce uniform policies.

C. FOIA Requests:
1. A FOIA request was submitted on Monday March 21, 2022 by Ms. Smith, Case Manager at The Chicago School Forensic Center requested prior student records. After an extensive search of records the student data did was not found. This request was fulfilled on Wednesday, March 23, 2022.
2. A FOIA request was submitted on Tuesday, March 22, 2022, by MuckRock News, Somerville MA requesting staff name, position, title, and FY21 salary. The request was fulfilled on Thursday, April 7, 2022.

BOARD COMMENTS
A. Member Swade wanted to mention an email he received from a parent of a Jefferson student. She wanted to thank the person who decided to move the 2nd grade dual students of the teacher left in the middle of the school year to Prairie Oak. He students was loving the change. Mr. Swade wanted to thank the dual teachers for embracing the Jefferson students in their classrooms. Thanks to this they were able to continue their dual education without interruption.
B. Member Kulis-Kearns Valeriano went to two school Prairie Oak and Jefferson to watch the debate afterschool program which was outsourced and they helped our teachers with the fundamentals of debate. Member Kulis-Kearns Valeriano was very excited that the outsourced professor gave great accolades to our teachers she wanted to make mention of it during this meeting. She is proud of our students that are participated in the debate afterschool program.
