Police have been notified of another attack at Lyons Township High School South’s campus that occurred on May 3.

Western Springs Police Chief Brian Budds could not provide details of the situation or confirm rumors that the incident was in retaliation for a previous act of violence, noting "we haven't confirmed one way or the other."

"I can confirm that we are currently investigating a case that came to our attention that occurred inside the school at approximately 3:19 in the afternoon yesterday," Budds told West Cook News.

"My team is currently investigating that case, working with the school again. It happened 3:19 yesterday and it came to our attention at the police department at about 9 this morning. So that case is is currently active. I can't really expand on much more on there, but I can confirm it involved students. And again, we're working the case and conducting some interviews."

Heavyn Washington was recently arrested for perpetrating an attack on April 27. In the days since, rumors have been swirling about community members coming together in her defense.

In a video, Washington punches the victim in the face several times, and then grabs her by the hair and drags her across the floor.

"Disturbing," Budds called the incident in which Washington jumped a smaller freshman girl.

Washington was arrested and charged with misdemeanor battery on Monday. The victim in that incident sought medical treatment afterward for a concussion, as well as repairs to her scalp and jaw.

A 14-year-old accomplice was also arrested for allegedly recording the beating and cheering on the attack.

"Beat her ass, racist ass bitch, yes!" the student yelled. "Beat her ass Heavyn, beat her ass ho."
