Saint John of the Cross Parish principal Kathleen Gorman has announced her retirement from the Western Springs School.

“After prayerful deliberation, I have decided to retire as Principal of St. John of the Cross Parish School,” Gorman said in her resignation letter. “The joy of the many wonderful individual staff, family and parish relationships which have developed cannot be underscored. They have made a lasting impact on my life.”

Gorman spent 14 years at SJC and more than 45 years in the education field.

“I have enjoyed my tenure here as Principal and leader of the school community, but I am very excited as I look forward to the next phase of my life,” she wrote. “I am thrilled to spend more quality time together with my family.”

In her letter, Gorman thanked the Rev. Marc Reszel and the Rev. David Dowdle “for their tremendous support of me as we collaborated in shaping the Catholic identity of your children.”

Gorman also thanked parents “for entrusting your most treasured gift to us. It has been a pleasure working with you,” she wrote.

On her school bio page, Gorman said she became an educator to encourage children to always be seeking to learn.

“I thoroughly enjoy working with students, staff, and parents in collaborating toward a common goal, Catholic identity, and academic excellence,” she wrote.

SJC counts more than 645 students, most of them coming from Western Springs, LaGrange, Hinsdale, Burr Ridge, Willowbrook, Willow Springs and Chicago.
