Dominican University's women's basketball team notched its third Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) win of the season on Saturday evening, defeating Alverno 55-54 on the road.
The Stars and the Inferno battled back-and-forth in the first half with Alverno leading 27-26 at the break. DU responded with a strong third quarter, outscoring Alverno by seven, taking a six-point lead to the final frame. Alverno tied the game at 54-all with seven seconds to go, but DU's Sophia Warner drew a foul on its offensive possession. Warner made 1-of-2 free throws with three seconds to go, sealing the victory for Dominican.
Warner had a team-high 14 points, making 7-of-9 free throw attempts. Ashley Green joined her in double-figures with 11 points, going 5-for-9 from the field. Alisha Markley pulled down 12 rebounds and added eight points.
