8

Triton College Athletics issued the following announcement on Nov. 20

The Triton College women's basketball team has traveled a long road over the course of the last seven years to earn respect again and become one of the top programs in the Region 4.

However, one thing missing was a win over their former North Central Community College (N4C) rivals Rock Valley College. After several near misses the last few seasons, the Trojans ended years of frustration with a dominating 85-49 win Nov. 20 in Rockford over the Golden Eagles.

The victory was the first win for Triton women's basketball against Rock Valley since 2004 and snapped a 25-game losing streak to the Golden Eagles.

The Trojans (6-2) once again show their explosiveness and array of weapons on both sides of the ball with a 50-9 combined run from the back end of the 2nd quarter and entire third quarter, which Triton outscored Rock Valley 30-5.

Linarys Burnett-Romero (Milwaukee, WI) was once the again the jump-start to the Trojans offense with a game-high 25 points on 6-of-12 shooting from long range. Burnett-Romero hit a 30-footer at the buzzer to give Triton a 40-31 halftime advantage.

The Trojans took off from there as their various combinations of pressuring defenses gave the Golden Eagles fits (1-4) as Triton forced 25 turnovers that led to 20 points.

Temya Russell (Marshall) off the bench had 17 points and 10 rebounds on 7-of-10 shooting from the field.

Monraia Wilson (Hoffman Estates) was the final Triton player in double-figures with 10 points and six rebounds.

The Trojans showed their balance and quality of depth as all nine players dressed scored.

Triton led by as many as 41 points early in the fourth quarter.

The Trojans after a busy eight-game stretch in under three weeks to open the season will earn a well-deserved break over the Thanksgiving holiday. Triton is not back in action until Nov. 30 when they travel to play the junior varsity team of Elmhurst University.
