Triton College Athletics issued the following announcement on Oct. 22

It was quite a Wednesday (Oct.20) for Triton College women's soccer player America Calvario. The day began with her being named NJCAA Division II Player of the Week. Then it ended with Calvario scoring the lone goal for the Trojans in a 1-0 road victory at Morton College.

The freshman from Pritzker College Prep earned the honor for her six-goal week for games played from Oct. 11-17.

In Triton's 4-1 home win against Elgin Community College Oct. 13, Calvario tallied a pair of goals and an assist. Then at Prairie State College Oct. 16, she helped the Trojans break the school record for most wins in a season-single with a four-goal, two assist performance as Triton won 7-2.

Also Calvario ranked 25th in the country in points broke the single-season individual mark of 31 points previously held by both Natalia Naumoff (2009) and Magdalena Adame (2016).

"I was surprised to find out that I was player of the week," said Calvario. "But it just is not about me, it's about my teammates. I would not have been player of the week without them."

Shortly after the announcement, Calvario and the Trojans took the field against Morton College and "Captain America" struck again off an assist from Grace Larson to put Triton on the board with 10 minutes left in the first half.

The Trojans (8-2) controlled the majority of ball possession and defended well in the second half for the Calvario goal to hold up.

Priscila Ortiz in goal picked up her fourth shutout of the season as the victory assured Triton their first ever winning season in program history.

"I felt like we played really well today,' said Calvario. "We only had the one goal but had a lot good chances and more ball possession. But this was a big win and I'm proud of our team."
