Berwyn North School District 98 Board of Education Met May 13.

Here is the minutes provided by the board:

I. PUBLIC NOTICE 

Board Members met at the Nosek Funeral Home, located at 6716 16th St, Berwyn, IL 60402  accompanied by Wight & Company for the purpose of inspecting the property. Further  discussion will be had during Executive Session.  

II. CALL TO ORDER 

Meeting began at 6:34 p.m. 

III. ROLL CALL 

Members Present: Mounce, Swade, Paul-Emile, Brown, and Bruno 

Members Late: Kulis-Kearns Valeriano arrived at 7:00 p.m. and Cuevas arrived at 7:08 p.m. Also in attendance: Superintendent, Dr. Michelle Smith, Assistant Superintendent, Dr. Robert  Hubbird, Regina Johnson, Chief School Business Official, Real Estate Broker, Mr. Jim Stillo,  Mr. Craig Siepka, and Mr. David Gassen of Wight & Company. 

IV. THE PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE 

The pledge of allegiance was led by Board President Mounce. 

V. PUBLIC COMMENT 

A. Dr. Michelle Smith, Superintended announced to the Board and community that Berwyn  North will be holding a celebration on May 21st at 1:00 p.m. at the Jefferson Elementary  School Soccer Park. This celebration will be for our retirees and milestone staff celebrating  their 10, 15, 20, and 25+ years of service at Berwyn North School District 98. This  celebration will include staff that the District was unable to personally acknowledge last  school year due to Covid. 

VI. BOARD COMMENT 

A. None stated. 

VII. ADJOURNMENT MOTION TO EXECUTIVE SESSION 

Member Paul-Emile moved and was seconded by Member Brown that the Special Board  Meeting of the District 98 Board of Education ajourn into Executive Session at 6:39 p.m., Thursday, May 13, 2021 for the purpose of discussing the following items:  

1. The appointment, employment, compensation, discipline, performance, or dismissal of  specific employees, specific individuals who serve as independent contractors, or  specific volunteers of the District or legal counsel for the District, including hearing  testimony on a complaint lodged against an employee, a specific individual who serves  as an independent contractor, or a volunteer of the District or against legal counsel for the District to determine its validity. However, a meeting to consider an increase in  compensation to a specific employee of a public body that is subject to the Local  Government Wage Increase Transparency Act may not be closed and shall be open to  the public and posted and held in accordance with this Act. 5 ILCS 120/2(c)(Open  Meetings Act Exception #1) 

2. The Purchase or lease of real property for the use of the public body, including  meetings held for the purpose of discussing whether a particular parcel should be  acquired. 5 ILCS 120/2(c)(5). (Open Meetings Act Exception #5) 

ROLL CALL:  

Ayes: Swade, Paul-Emile, Brown, Bruno, and Mounce 

MOTION TO RECONVENE IN REGULAR SESSION 

Member Paul-Emile moved and was seconded by Member Cuevas that the Special Meeting of  the District 98 Board of Education reconvenes from Executive Session at 7:20 p.m., Thrusday,  May 13, 2021.

ROLL CALL:  

Ayes: Swade, Paul-Emile, Cuevas, Brown, Bruno, Kulis-Kearns Valeriano, and Mounce 

MOTION TO ACCEPT LJ MORRIS’ BID FOR THE JEFFERSON STEM/STEAM PROJECT Member Brown moved and was seconded by Member Bruno that the Board approve LJ Morris’ Bid for the Jefferson STEM/STEAM Project.  

ROLL CALL: 

Ayes: Swade, Paul-Emile, Cuevas, Brown, Bruno, Kulis-Kearns Valeriano, and Mounce 

VIII. ADJOURNMENT 

MOTION TO ADJOURN 

Member Paul-Emile moved and was seconded by Member Brown that the Special Board  Meeting of the District 98 Board of Education adjourn at 7:44 p.m., Thursday, May 13, 2021.
