Village of Berkeley Village Board Met May 4.

Here is the minutes provided by the board:

1 President Lee called the meeting to order at 6:32 p.m.

2 Pledge of Allegiance

3 Roll Call

Present: Trustees Hammar, Salemi, Grenier, Graf-Stone, Washington, Perez

President Lee congratulates Village Clerk Maria Rivera on her last roll call and thanks Rusty Grenier for his service

Also present: Village Administrator Espiritu, Assistant to the Village Administrator Miller, Fire Chief Kuryla, Police Chief Larem, Superintendent Wagner, Village Attorney Smith and Assistant Attorney Brogan

4 Presentations and Appointment

4.1 Oaths of Office administered by the Honorable Elizabeth Ciaccia Lezza, 4th District Circuit Court Judge-President Lee welcomes and is honored to have Judge Lezza

President Lee took about 15 minutes to talk about Berkeley’s strategic planning. He congratulates young families stepping up into the community. President Lee pays homage to two important men in his life who were long-time Berkeley residents. He wears a tie from his late father-in-law Joseph P Romanelli and a tie clip from his own father, Robert E. Lee Sr. He looks forward to next 4years and planning to build Berkeley together.

Administrator Espiritu opened discussion on school facilities and new construction including parking. He introduced the School Architect, who maee presentation. Ground breaking to start 6-01-21 and completion targeted for 12-2022

9.2 Finance and Economic Development (Chair – Trustee Washington; Co-Chair Trustee Salemi)

9.2.1 Trustee Liaison Report – Trustee Washington states work done on fiscal year end, audit, grants and projects and thanks to staff and strategic plan

9.3 Police and Property Maintenance (Chair – Trustee Salemi; Co-Chair Trustee Hammar)

9.3.1 Trustee Liaison Report – Trustee Salemi had nothing to report. Reminds audience last time to order Home Run Inn pizzas for proceeds to Berkeley/Hillside Chamber of Commerce. Also states idea regarding food trucks at village.

9.4 Fire and Health (Chair – Trustee Grenier; Co-Chair Trustee Perez) 

9.4.1 Trustee Liaison Report – Nothing to report

9.5 Public Works and Utilities (Chair – Trustee Hammar; Co-Chair Trustee Grenier)

9.5.1 Trustee Liaison Report – Trustee Hammer met last week with park district and project coming along very well. Doing research and looking at possible grants.

9.6 Community and Intergovernmental Relations (Chair – Trustee Perez; Co Chair Trustee Graf-Stone)

9.6.1 Trustee Liaison Report – Trustee Perez said Music in the Park is coming along and is scheduled for Thursdays in July.

10 Village President

10.1 President’s Report – President Lee thanks school for hosting welcomes new comers. Looking forward to a lot to do and plan for entire community.
