Over 500 people have signed a petition in District 90 to restore in-person learning.
The petition garnered a lot of interest and was viewed nearly 9,000 times within a week.
The petition was in favor of opening up schools and allowing students to participate in in-person instruction, which the District 90 board unanimously voted for on Dec. 14.
A remote learning option will still be available for students. District 90’s return to school plan includes the transition from full remote learning to blended in-person learning which will take place from Dec.14 – Dec. 23.
Winter break will run Dec. 24 to Jan. 8.
Remote learning days will begin on Jan. 7-8 with full remote learning beginning from Jan. 11 to 15.
The anticipated date for blended in-person learning is Jan. 19, 2021.
Earlier this month, School Superintendent Ed Condon sent a letter to families, staff and educators informing them of the school's intention to return to a blended form of in-person and remote learning options in January.
According to the petition, children will be negatively affected more if schools stay closed and isolation continues.
