Disappointed students and parents are returning to remote instruction after River Forest Public Schools District 90 shut down in-school learning after only one day.

The school district previously said they were delaying opening due to Covid but announced just after opening they would return to remote learning.

“District 90 will begin an ‘Adaptive Pause’ shift to remote learning for two weeks, beginning on Wednesday, October 28, 2020,” a River Forest Public Schools announcement reads. “This transition returning District schools to remote learning is due to Governor J.B. Pritzker's recent announcement about the COVID-19 mitigation procedures for regions 4 and 10 under the Restore Illinois Plan.”

The school district includes Lincoln Elementary School, Willard Elementary School and Roosevelt Middle School.

School will remain out until Nov. 16. However, the school district was clear that could change and re-opening delayed indefinitely.

“[F]inal return dates may be revised based upon changing circumstances or conditions. More information will be provided in the near future,” the school district’s announcement reads.

River Forest Public Schools Superintendent Edward J. Condon, Ph.D is in charge of the school district.

Condon makes $208,000 per year.

Teachers' unions have been flexing their muscles during the Covid pandemic.

The school district is being shuttered again as critics argue teachers unions have been using the Covid pandemic for leverage.

School district board member and former president Ralph Martire’s full-time job is as executive director of teacher union-backed Center for Tax and Budget Accountability. CTBA Board members include those in the leadership ranks of the the Illinois Education Association, AFSCME Council 31 and the Illinois Federation of Teachers.

The River Forest Education Association, which represents the bulk of the district’s some 200 employees.

The RFAE similarly stood up earlier this year and in a narrow vote lost their bid to require an entirely remote school year.

Martire has been accused of siding his economic opinion with those who support the CTBA politically and financially. He was also a member of J.B. Pritzker’s transition team

“People need to know who he is and who he represents,” Ted Dabrowski, President of Wirepoints.com, told West Cook News when Martire was running for school board. “He’s union funded, and his views are based on union-backed research.”
