Q1 2020 Recap: Parolees in Cook County convicted of homicide

There were 82 offenders convicted of homicide released on parole in Cook County during the first quarter of 2020, according to Illinois Department of Corrections data obtained by the West Cook News.

The data shows that all of the released offenders among the parolees were men. Of the parolees sentenced for homicide, three were veterans, and the median age was 47. The youngest parolee was a 22-year-old man sentenced in 2017, and the oldest was a 81-year-old man sentenced in 1961.

The offender who had been incarcerated the longest was Chester Weger. He was convicted in 1961 when he was 22 years old. He is now 81.

Under state law, paroled offenders are still in legal custody of the IDOC, meaning they can be taken back to a correctional center at any time if the state has probable cause or a warrant.

The following table shows how many offenders convicted of homicide were paroled during the first quarter of 2020 in each Illinois county.
