Elmwood Park FD responds to 37 fires in 2018

Elmwood Park Fire District responded to 306 calls in 2018 - 1.6 percent less than the previous year, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System.

The calls in Elmwood Park included 37 fires - 24 structure fires, six vehicle fires and seven other fires.

In all, the department saw $1,003,507 in fire loss - or about $27,122 per fire.

The department also received 269 false calls, including eight malicious calls and 261 other false calls.

The calls resulted in three civilian fire-related injuries. Additionally, one fire service member was injured in fire-related incidents and one was injured in non fire-related incidents.

The Elmwood Park Firefighters Pension Fund, which has 24 active employees and 31 retired or inactive employees, was $714,628 in debt as of April 2017, according to the fund's mandated filings with the Illinois Department of Insurance. That amounts to $16,619 for every fire in 2017.
