Lyons Fire District responded to 311 calls in 2018 - 5.5 percent less than the previous year, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System.

The calls in Lyons included 55 fires - 34 structure fires, seven vehicle fires and 14 other fires. The fire department also responded to one call for ruptures, explosions or overheating.

In all, the department saw $6,700 in fire loss - or about $122 per fire.

The department also received 255 false calls, including three malicious calls and 252 other false calls.

The Lyons Firefighters Pension Fund, which has active employee and one retired or inactive employee, was $58,455 in debt as of December 2017, according to the fund's mandated filings with the Illinois Department of Insurance. That amounts to $847 for every fire in 2017.
