Maywood FD responds to 102 fires in 2018

Maywood Fire District responded to 397 calls in 2018 - 1 percent less than the previous year, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System.

The calls in Maywood included 102 fires - 53 structure fires, 23 vehicle fires and 26 other fires. The fire department also responded to six calls for ruptures, explosions or overheating.

In all, the department saw $1,840,000 in fire loss - or about $18,039 per fire.

The department also received 289 false calls, including six malicious calls and 283 other false calls.

The calls resulted in one civilian fire-related injury. Additionally, three fire service members were injured in fire-related incidents.

The Maywood Firefighters Pension Fund, which has 37 active employees and 57 retired or inactive employees, was $685,770 in debt as of April 2017, according to the fund's mandated filings with the Illinois Department of Insurance. That amounts to $6,658 for every fire in 2017.
