North Riverside FD responds to 38 fires in 2018

North Riverside Fire District responded to 308 calls in 2018 - 10.7 percent less than the previous year, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System.

The calls in North Riverside included 38 fires - 30 structure fires, five vehicle fires and three other fires. The fire department also responded to two calls for ruptures, explosions or overheating.

In all, the department saw $129,711 in fire loss - or about $3,413 per fire.

The department also received 268 false calls, including one malicious call and 267 other false calls.

Two fire service member were injured in non fire-related incidents.

The North Riverside Firefighters Pension Fund, which has 14 active employees and 18 retired or inactive employees, was $459,174 in debt as of April 2017, according to the fund's mandated filings with the Illinois Department of Insurance. That amounts to $10,436 for every fire in 2017.
