Berwyn North School District 98 Board of Education met Feb. 19.

A Special Meeting of the Board of Education Members of Berwyn North School District 98 was held Wednesday, February 19, 2020, beginning at 6:30 PM in the District Office.
I. CALL TO ORDER
Meeting began at 7:03 p.m.
II. ROLL CALL
Members Present: Mounce, Swade, Arenella, Paul-Emile, and Cuevas
Members Absent: Pabon and Kulis-Kearns Valeriano
In Attendance: Michelle Smith, Superintendent, Jessica Ibarra, Executive Secretary, Dena Thill, Principal, and Stephanie Gage Principal.
III. PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE
The Pledge of Allegiance was led by the Board President Member Mounce.
IV. NEW BUSINESS
1. Senate Bill 3717: Superintendent Smith reviewed the Bill with the Board and spoke briefly of the impact it will have on the school day structure.
V. OLD BUSINESS
1. Updated the Board on contracting half-time Technology Consultant.
VI. ADJOURNMENT MOTION TO EXECUTIVE SESSION
Member Paul-Emile moved and was seconded by Member Cuevas that the Special Board Meeting of the Board of Education, School District 98 adjourn to Executive Session at 7:05 p.m., Wednesday, February 19, 2020 for the purpose of discussing the following Items:
1. The appointment, employment, compensation, discipline, performance, or dismissal of specific employees of the District or legal counsel for the District, including hearing testimony on a complaint lodged against an employee or against legal counsel for the District to determine its validity. However, a meeting to consider an increase in compensation to a specific employee of a public body that is subject to the Local Government Wage Increase Transparency Act may not be closed and shall be open to the public and posted and held in accordance with this Act. 5 ILCS 120/2(c)(1).
2. Student disciplinary cases. 5 ILCS 120/2(c)(9).
MOTION TO HAVE STUDENT #200588 – EXPELLED FROM IL PUBLIC SCHOOLS FOR TWO YEARS AND PLACED IN AN ALTERNATIVE SCHOOL SETTING
Member Arenella moved and was seconded by Member Cuevas that the Board have student # 200588 expelled from IL Public Schools from February 24, 2020 until February 24, 2022 and be placed in an Alternative School setting for the duration of the expulsion.

MOTION TO RECONVENE IN REGULAR SESSION
Member Paul-Emile moved and was seconded by Member Cuevas that the Regular Meeting of the Board of Education, District 98 reconvenes from Executive Session at 9:51 p.m., Wednesday, February 19, 2020.
