Village of Franklin Park Senior Citizen Commission met Dec. 5.

Lisa Anthony called the December 5, 2019 Senior Commission meeting to order at 1:00 p.m.
Members present: Kitty Greenwood, Bernice Brown, Ruth Schwab and Mike Vallone
Guest: Elli Song from Congressman Quigley’s office
The minutes of the November 2019 meeting were reviewed by the members. Motion by Ruth Schwab, seconded by Mike Valone to accept the minutes as read. Motion carried and the minutes were accepted.
St. Vincent DePaul Report: We have given out money for rent and medicine. The food supply is getting low.
American Legion Report: On Thanksgiving Day we hosted a dinner for the Great Lakes Naval Academy at West Leyden High School. We had around 200 recruits in attendance. On December 1st the Legion had their kids Christmas party. Everyone had a great time. On January 25th the Legion held it 3rd annual Stand Down. They provide veteran’s with a hot meal and coats, clothing, toiletries and other essentials.
Relay for Life report by Kitty Greenwood & Bernie Brown: Not much happening at this time. You can go to the website to sign up for the relay.
Heidi from the cancer society will not be running the relay this year.
Ruth Schwab: Thinks that the seniors should be made aware of the Senior clubs for Leyden Township and Franklin Park. Hopefully we they can get more seniors involved.
Lisa reminded the members about the upcoming Winterfest at Hammill Square on December 5th and the Blood Drive on December 6th. The January 2020 meeting is cancelled.
Elli Song from Congressman Quigley’s office attended the meeting and gave the members booklets on Identity Theft and reminded the members that December 7th is the last day to sign up or change Medicare Advantage Plan.
