VISION STATEMENT

Mrs. Medina read the D209 Vision Statement into the record

Ms. Davis and Mr. Mills from Ray & Associates briefly reviewed the meetings that have been held throughout Proviso. They met with nine different focus groups ranging from students to community leaders to district and building leadership. They stated the focus groups were very open and honest and very appreciative that the Board was seeking the opinion of the community stakeholders. Ms. Davis reviewed the general summary data received by the focus groups and explained the process of creating the job posting flyer. She stated that the community members show an interest in the oneness and history of PTHS D209. She further stated there is a sense of pride in Proviso. Mr. Mills reviewed the qualities that the stakeholders are looking for in a new superintendent such as; someone who is approachable, someone who can work well with the Board, and someone who will continue on the progress being made by the District and follow through with the facility master plan. He also stated the additional qualities are being fiscally savvy and someone who will monitor how the money is spent. Ms. Davis stated that in the meetings with the students and teachers, they requested someone who will bridge the racial divide and will continue the mental health progress that has been accomplished this year. The Board asked that Ray & Associates ensure that the candidate will be knowledgeable about all three schools within the District.

Ms. Davis reviewed the detailed survey results and the recommendations for the job posting flyer. There was a consensus among the Board to combine the following statements: possesses the leadership skills required to respond to the opportunities and challenges presented by an ethnically and culturally diverse community and has commitment to and experience dealing with all genders, races and socio-economic groups as both statements combined created a more defined quality. The suggestion was also made to enhance student performance, especially in identifying and closing or narrowing the gaps in student achievement, and is comfortable leading innovative and reform efforts. Through discussion the Board determined to include 11 characteristics on the flyer focusing on a candidate who could understand diverse cultures.

Ms. Davis and Mr. Mills asked the Board to review the results of the survey and read the comments. They asked for comments from the Board regarding the flyer, details, descriptions and achievements. The Board suggested changing the color, using a standard font that was easier to read, and more detailed description of the District accomplishments. They also suggested adding information regarding the expansion of our International Baccalaureate program and the facility capital projects.

There was a discussion among the Board regarding a proposed salary. There was also a discussion regarding upcoming meeting timelines. Ms. Davis also advised the Board against talking in public regarding the candidates. She also suggested the Board hold the April 7, 2020 semifinal interview outside of the District.
