Village of Berkeley Village Board met Dec. 17.

Here is the minutes provided by the board:

1 President Lee called the meeting to order at 6:30 p.m.

Present: Trustees Hammar, Salemi, Grenier, Washington, Perez, President Lee

Absent: Trustee Graf-Stone, Clerk Rivera

Also Present: Village Administrator Rudy Espiritu, Assistant to the Village Administrator Justyn Miller, Fire Chief Michael Kuryla, Public Works Superintendent Joseph Wagner, Assistant Attorney Liz Brogan and Village Attorney Greg Smith.

4 Presentations and Appointment

Dr. Terri Bresnahan, Superintendent with School District 87 - Plans for District 87 Superintendent Bresnahan started by thanking the Berkeley Board and the Village of Berkeley for the generous donations ($4,450 in gift cards) that was presented by President Lee last night at the Board of Education Meeting through the Berkeley Giving Tree. 71 families were designated to receive gift cards this year. District 87 services six communities and she is grateful to work with Berkeley to do what is best for our students.

Superintendent Bresnahan went over plans for District 87 that took two years of work. A town hall meeting was hosted by the Village of Berkeley on Wednesday, December 4th. The consensus plan was shared and discussed with community members. A series of community events, as well as phone surveys were held to consider all feedback from the communities. The Board of Education voted on Monday, December 16th to approve the resolution for placing a proposition issuing $105,000,000 School Building Bonds to voters on March 17, 2020. If they have a successful referendum, it will be a three year plan to completely replace Sunnyside and MacArthur School, major renovations for Northlake and Riley, as well as improvements for Jefferson and Whittier.

The following Board meeting on March 17th will be the Public Hearing for the Budget and at the Board Meeting on April 7th approval for the Budget.

9.6.1 Trustee Liaison Report – Trustee Perez reported that the Holiday Feast was successful and the children had lots of fun. If anyone has any comments on how it went, please send them to Trustee Perez or Village Administrator Espiritu. The 19th annual Breakfast honoring Dr. Martin Luther King will be held on January 20, 2020 at 8:30 am at the Best Western in Hillside.

President Lee thanked Staff for continuing the Berkeley Giving Tree Program and reaching out to the Residents and Business. He thanks everyone that participated in it. They are half way through the fiscal year and the financial forecast is about a month away. President Lee reminded that they have done a lot of things throughout the year and he is grateful to work with all the staff, the Board and Attorney Smith.
