Berwyn North School District 98 Board of Education met  Nov. 21.

Here is the minutes provided by the board:

CALL TO ORDER: Meeting began at 6:32 p.m. with the pledge of allegiance led by: Daniel Gonzalez, Benicio Garcia, Sebastian Brucato, Yaritza Gutierrez and Roberto Bautista.

COMMUNICATIONS

A. Student Ambassadors:

Student Ambassadors Analysee Castillo and Ivan Resendiz greeted the Board and community once again. They prepared and presented to the Board and community the result of a student check-in survey about student climate when it comes to safety.

B. AchievementDataPresentations:

Superintendent Michelle Smith and Assistant Superintendent Dr. Alexandra Escobar presented to the Board and community District 98’s state ranking for all school. At this time all district school are ranked “Commendable” and two out of the four were extremely close to “Exemplary” status. Ms. Smith and Dr. Escobar presented the Board with the State Data that corroborated the ranking.

PUBLIC COMMENT

A. Monica Deenihan, Teacher at Prairie Oak and Donna Miller, Teacher at Havlicek introduced themselves to the Board and community. Ms. Miller wanted to make it known that Havlicek School held a pizza and raffle event that pulled about 400 parents and family members to the event. She emphasized the great effort put forth by school staff, administrators and the Havlicek PTO that made this event successful. PTO member Luisa Villagomez was named as a great collaborator to the event.

BOARD COMMENT

A. Member Kulis-Kearns Valeriano wanted to inform the Board and community of the great opportunity she had the privilege of being able to participate in the dual language conference “La Cosecha.” She hold a great interest in the dual language program and wanted to bring back information she acquired through this event.

B. Member Pabon whom was also able to participate in the dual language conference learned how the program empowers students to have a voice. He hopes to bring a presenter to the district and provide training to Board members on how to properly integrate the dual language program at Berwyn North School District 98.

• Cristina Adame, from District Substitute to Program Assistant at Havlicek Elementary School, effective October 21, 2019. 4. Resignations:

• Daniel Wonk, Special Education Teacher at Lincoln Middle School, submitted a Letter of Resignation effective November 15, 2019.

• Amelia Graham, Teacher at Jefferson Elementary School, submitted a Letter of Resignation effective November 21, 2019

• Olga Menchaca, Program Assistant at Lincoln Middle School, submitted a Letter of Resignation effective November 8, 2019.

5. Retirement:

• Ligija Ambutas, Special Education Teacher at Lincoln Middle School, has submitted a Letter of Intent to Retire effective January 31, 2020.
