Village of Broadview Board of Trustee met Sept. 18.

Here is the minutes provided by the board:

I. CALL TO ORDER

The Regular Board Meeting of Monday, September 18, 2019 was called to order by Mayor Thompson at 7:32 p.m., in the Council Chambers at 2350 South 25th Avenue, Broadview, IL 60155.

ROLL CALL

Upon roll call by Kevin McGrier, Village Clerk, the following answered Present: Trustee(s) J. Miller, V. Horne, A. Senior, Mayor Thompson, Absent: S. Jones, J. Tierney

There being a quorum the meeting was called to order.

PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE TO FLAG

Everyone remained standing and recited the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America.

MOMENT OF SILENCE

Everyone joined in a moment of silence.

II. PUBLIC COMMENT(s)

Residents Shirley Redmond, Andrew Rouse and Celestine Scales gave comments.

III. COMMUNICATION(S) ANNOUNCED BY CLERK MCGRIER:

Recognition of the Broadview Sidewinders Baseball team

Clerk mentioned the Fire Department Open House 9-26-19 5:30pm

Clerk mentioned the 2020 Census Job recruiting events 9-26-19 @ 3-5pm and 10-5-19 @ 10am-12pm

Clerk mentioned the Senior Bingo Bash 10-5-19 @ 1-4pm

Clerk mentioned the Community Shred day at Village Hall 10-19-19 9am – 1pm

IV. CONSIDERATION TO APPROVE THE FOLLOWING MINUTES:

Discussion: Trustee Miller asked for a correction to the minutes regarding the spelling of Al Ronan’s name

A. A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING AND APPROVING AN AGREEMENT WITH J NARDULLI CONCRETE, INC. FOR ADDITIONAL IMPROVEMENTS TO BE COMPLETED IN CONJUNCTION WITH IDOT PROJECT 61F39 RELATED TO THE BRAGA DRIVE IMPROVEMENTS PROJECT FOR THE VILLAGE OF BROADVIEW, COUNTY OF COOK, STATE OF ILLINOIS.

Discussion: Chris Baker with Hancock Engineering gave us details of this resolution/project.

B. A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING AND APPROVING AN AGREEMENT WITH EDWIN HANCOCK ENGINEERING COMPANY FOR THE FURNISHING OF PRELIMINARY AND DESIGN ENGINEERING SERVICES RELATED TO THE SAFE ROUTES TO SCHOOL SIDEWALK IMPROVEMENT PROJECT FOR THE VILLAGE OF BROADVIEW, COUNTY OF COOK, STATE OF ILLINOIS.

Motion to approve by Trustee Abraham and Seconded by Trustee Senior

Discussion: Mayor Thompson read the resolution. Trustees Miller, Jones, Senior, Tierney and Horne gave individual testimonials to Mr. Henderson. Mayor Thompson also gave kind words of congratulations to Mr. Henderson.

C. A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING AND APPROVING EXPENSES RELATED TO ATTENDANCE AT THE ILLINOIS MUNICIPAL LEAGUE CONFERENCE AND THE MUNICIPAL CLERKS OF ILLINOIS INSTITUTE AND ACADEMY FOR THE VILLAGE OF BROADVIEW, COUNTY OF COOK, STATE OF ILLINOIS.

E. CONSIDERATION OF AN APPLICATION FOR A BUSINESS LICENSE REQUESTED BY ELSIE LATTUCA OF AABLE LICENSE CONSULTANTS INC –DBA AABLE LICENSE CONSULTANTS INC – 2600 S 25TH AVE, FOR THE VILLAGE OF BROADVIEW, COUNTY OF COOK, STATE OF ILLINOIS

Motion by Trustee Abraham and Seconded by Trustee Senior

Discussion: Commissioner Upshaw gave a description of the business and what they would provide. Trustee Miller didn’t receive the packet (As did neither of the other Trustees), Trustee Miller preferred to table until the next meeting.

VIII. APPLICATION (S) FOR THE AUTHORITY TO EXPEND FUNDS: NONE

IX. VILLAGE CLERK Kevin McGrier

• Clerk gave kudos to the Building Department and namely Inspector Greg Buchanan as he monitors contractors with regards to their Building Permits; and the Public Works Department

X. VILLAGE PRESIDENT Katrina Thompson

• Mayor Thompson addressed the last board meeting in particular the information regarding Al Ronan, our lobbyist. Mayor cleared up misconceptions and gave details of our service received from the lobbyist. Mayor also spoke about specific bills in the house and senate that have benefitted us as a result of the work of our lobbyist.

• Mayor Thompson mentioned the fact that the bills are available for review by all Trustees throughout the week leading up to the Board meeting. Trustees can contact any of the Department Heads directly to get questions answered that they may have regarding bills. Mayor states that many of the Trustees don’t even come to review the bills until the evening of and just before the board meeting.

• Mayor Thompson addressed the question of the $3000 spent on t-shirts. The event that we hosted for the Annual Health fair, we had sponsors that donated over $9,000, one of which was Al Ronan. The T-shirts were given away free to our residents.

• Mayor Thompson addressed the excessive water bill complaints. The Mayor experienced a high water bill as well, but had her toilet changed to a water efficient toilet and her bill was lower than it ever had been.
