Q3 2018 Recap: Parolees in Chicago convicted of homicide

There were 45 offenders convicted of homicide released on parole in Chicago during the third quarter, according to Illinois Department of Corrections data obtained by the West Cook News.

The data shows that 44 men and one woman were among the parolees. Of the parolees sentenced for homicide, two were veterans, and the median age was 42. The youngest parolee was a 20-year-old man sentenced in 2016, and the oldest was a 63-year-old man sentenced in 2012.

The offender who was incarcerated the longest was Anthony Habener. He was convicted of homicide in 1988 when he was 27 years old. He is now 59.

Under state law, paroled offenders are still in legal custody of the IDOC, meaning they can be taken back to a correctional center at any time if the state has probable cause or a warrant.

The table below shows the cities in Illinois with the most paroled offenders in Q3 2018 who were convicted of homicide.
