Q2 2018 Recap: Parolees in Chicago convicted of homicide

There were 40 offenders convicted of homicide released on parole in Chicago during the second quarter, according to Illinois Department of Corrections data obtained by the West Cook News.

The data shows that 38 men and two women were among the parolees. Of the parolees sentenced for homicide, three were veterans, and the median age was 46. The youngest parolee was a 20-year-old man sentenced in 2017, and the oldest was a 72-year-old man sentenced in 1979.

The offender who was incarcerated the longest was Angel Soto. He was convicted of homicide in 1974 when he was 24 years old. He is now 69.

Under state law, paroled offenders are still in legal custody of the IDOC, meaning they can be taken back to a correctional center at any time if the state has probable cause or a warrant.

The table below shows the cities in Illinois with the most paroled offenders in Q2 2018 who were convicted of homicide.
