Former state school employee Reeder paid in $48K to teachers' pension fund, could collect $735K in retirement

Former state school employee Jane Reeder, who retired in June 2018, saved $48,177 toward a pension over 13 years working for public schools, Teachers' Retirement System of the State of Illinois records show.

Over 30 years of retirement, Reeder would collect as much as $734,868, according to a projection by Local Government Information Services (LGIS), which publishes West Cook News.

The projection assumes Reeder received $15,446 in the first year of retirement, then 3 percent annual increases thereafter, compounded.

After 4 years of retirement, Reeder will have already received $64,619 in retirement benefits, or more than the sum total of the retiree's contributions to the teachers' pension fund.
