The price of local government in 2017: City of Countryside

The City of Countryside budget was $21.12 million for its 2017 fiscal year, or $10,040 per household.

That's a decrease of 4.3 percent from 2016, when the city spent $22.09 million, or $10,497 per household.

Countryside has 2,104 households and a population of 5,895.

Since 2001, the City of Countryside budget has grown by 28.2 percent, from $16.48 million. The city population has fallen 10.7 percent over the same period, from 6,600.

Salaries accounted for 19.4 percent of city spending in 2017. Countryside property taxpayers paid $4.09 million for 54 full-time employees, or an average of $75,812 each, before their health care benefits and taxpayer-funded pension contributions.

In 2001, the city had 50 full-time employees and 48 part-time employees, and spent $3.93 million.
