Berwyn South School District 100 students suspended 75 times in a single school year

Berwyn South School District 100 reported 75 suspensions for 2016-17, according to the latest student discipline report by the Illinois State Board of Education.

According to the report, the district expelled or suspended 75 students during the year. That equates to 1.9 percent of the 3,861 students enrolled.

Of the 23 in-school suspensions, all of whom were elementary or middle schoolers.

The district reported that most in-school suspensions were given for unspecified reasons. The category includes 14 incidents. There were seven incidents of violence without physical injury. For 21 incidents, students were suspended for a day or less.

Of the 52 out-of-school suspensions, 42 were given to boys and 10 were given to girls, all of whom were elementary or middle schoolers.

The district reported that most out-of-school suspensions were given for unspecified reasons. The category includes 26 incidents. There were 11 incidents of violence without physical injury. For 34 incidents, students were suspended for a day or less.
