Berwyn North School District 98 students suspended 111 times in a single school year

Berwyn North School District 98 reported 111 suspensions for 2016-17, according to the latest student discipline report by the Illinois State Board of Education.

According to the report, the district expelled or suspended 111 students during the year. That equates to 3.6 percent of the 3,084 students enrolled.

Of the 38 in-school suspensions, all of whom were elementary or middle schoolers.

The district reported that most in-school suspensions were given for unspecified reasons. The category includes 36 incidents. There were two incidents of a dangerous weapon, other than a firearm. For 25 incidents, students were suspended for a day or less.

Of the 73 out-of-school suspensions, all of whom were elementary or middle schoolers.

The district reported that most out-of-school suspensions were given for unspecified reasons. The category includes 71 incidents. There were two incidents of a dangerous weapon, other than a firearm. For 29 incidents, students were suspended for a day or less.
