Bellwood School District 88 students suspended 44 times in a single school year

Bellwood School District 88 reported 44 suspensions for 2016-17, according to the latest student discipline report by the Illinois State Board of Education.

According to the report, the district expelled or suspended 44 students during the year. That equates to 1.7 percent of the 2,595 students enrolled.

Of the 30 in-school suspensions, all of whom were elementary or middle schoolers.

The district reported that most in-school suspensions were given for unspecified reasons. The category includes 19 incidents. There were 11 incidents of violence without physical injury. For 18 incidents, students were suspended for a day or less.

Of the 14 out-of-school suspensions, all of whom were elementary or middle schoolers.

The district reported that most out-of-school suspensions were given for unspecified reasons. The category includes 13 incidents. There were one incidents of violence without physical injury. For 12 incidents, students were suspended for 1-3 days.
